海外旅行：飛行機の中で時間潰しに聞きたい曲（１）Pet Shop Boys - Go West

少し変わった試みとして、長時間の飛行機のフライト中、暇な時に聴く音楽として個人的にお勧めできる曲を紹介していきたいと思います。音楽は人それぞれ好みが違いますから、こんな曲は好きじゃないと言われる方もおられるかもしれませんが、今後、色々な曲を紹介させて頂き、知らなかった曲だけど良いなと思える曲が一曲でも紹介できればと思い、こういう試みをさせて頂くことにしました。不評な場合には辞める予定ですので、ご感想があれば是非コメントをお願いいたします。

この曲はアメリカのVillage Peopleの曲（1979年）。をイギリスのPet SHop Boysが1993年に発表したカバーバージョンです。イギリスマンチェスターの有名なナイトクラブHaciendaでのAIDSチャリティ・イヴェントへの参加を求められて歌った曲をシングルとして発売したものです。下の写真は2013年のもの。

原曲と違い、この曲のビデオでは明らかに旧ソ連の社会主義体制を皮肉った内容になっていて、西側は自由でいいよという内容になっています。ジャンルはディスコですが、このジャンルが嫌いな私でも好きになるノリの良い曲です。もう少し長い曲だと良いのですが、少し短いのが難点です。

日本ではオリコン9位でしたが、アメリカ（該当部門）、ドイツ、フィンランド、アイルランド、アイスランドのチャートでは1位を獲得、本国イギリスでは2位となった大ヒット曲です。旅行の際の音楽リストにどうでしょうか？
