1. The geographic feature of Japan affecting to bloom dates
The country lies between latitudes 24° and 46°N, and longitudes 122° and 146°E - 3,000km long. The climate at the southern region is much different from that in the northern region. Beacuse of this, the location cherry blossom begin to bloom gradually changes from the sourthern region to the northern region. The actual difference of the bloom dates between the south and the north region was 50 days in 2019. This means full bloom dates vary depending at locations.
1.1 About the regions of Japan
Japan has nine regions: Kyushu, Shikoku, Chugoku, Kinki, Tokai, Kanto/Kosin'etsu, Hokuriku, Tohoku, Hokkaido (bold letters: long tone). The meanigs of these names are as follows.
- Kyushu: nine countries
- Shikoku: four counties
- Chugoku: central country
- Kinki: capital and neighborhood
- Tokai: East Sea
- Kanto: Eastern Barrier
- Koshin'etsu: generic name of Kai, Shinano and Echigo regions
- Hokuriku: northern land
- Tohoku; east-north
- Hokkaido: northern sea road
